Put every wrong EVS question into one of five buckets

Two scientific statements looked plausible and you lacked the depth needed to eliminate the more subtly incorrect option.
You misread a qualifier, rushed a calculation, overlooked units or changed a correct answer without a strong reason.
Once your mistakes have names, “EVS is weak” becomes something actionable: perhaps Environmental Chemistry concepts are weak, Statistics needs practice, and legislation simply needs a better revision cycle.

Count mistakes unit by unit. Your three highest-loss units become your first revision priority. That is more rational than automatically beginning again from Unit I.
Knowing a formula and being able to use it are different skills
Environmental Science contains areas where concepts turn into calculations, graphs, units and interpretation. If these questions caused marks to disappear, create a separate numerical error log.
Can you write it without looking?
Do you know what every variable represents?
Can you spot and convert mismatched units?
Can you recognise which formula or principle a new question requires?
A good numerical routine is: concept → solved example → independent question → PYQ → error review → reattempt after a gap.
Do not use EVS PYQs only to count correct answers
After one real attempt, every PYQ should teach you how a familiar concept can be disguised inside a new question.
- Which syllabus concept produced this question?
- Why are the distractors scientifically tempting?
- Is the question testing memory, application, calculation or comparison?
- What related concept could be asked next?
- Did you get it right because you knew it—or because you guessed correctly?
A guessed correct answer can hide a weak concept. Mark questions you were unsure about even when the final option happened to be correct.
If Paper 1 is strong, maintain it—do not let it consume your EVS repair time
If your Paper 1 performance is already near your target, keep it active through short revision and mixed practice while moving the larger share of preparation time toward Environmental Science Paper 2.
The reverse also matters: if both papers are weak, do not diagnose the attempt as an “EVS problem” only. Keep separate error sheets for Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Replace random study with a concept-to-question system
1. Learn the concept
Understand the mechanism, relationship, assumptions and exceptions—not only the definition.
2. Connect it visually or practically
Use diagrams, environmental examples and applications so abstract concepts become retrievable.
3. Solve topic-wise PYQs
Immediately see how the concept is converted into an exam question.
4. Analyse every error
Record why the chosen option failed and what knowledge would have prevented the mistake.
5. Test the whole unit
Move from isolated topic practice to mixed questions.
6. Revise weak areas again
Use the error log to decide what returns to your revision schedule.
