The notice below is the official 16 August 2026 document announcing the re-conduct of English, Commerce and Sociology, the revised exam dates, the no-additional-fee rule, and result-processing information for the other 84 subjects.

The committee found problems too extensive to fix by simply dropping questions
The notice records factual, typographical and translation errors, misspelt scholar names, garbled book titles, errors in question stems, grammatical and punctuation problems, non-standard coined terms and repetition of a significant number of previously administered questions.
NTA concluded that defects of this extent did not meet the standard of a fair, error-free examination and could not be cured merely through the normal challenge process.
For candidates, that changes the psychology of the next few weeks: this is effectively another opportunity to sit the same examination cycle with knowledge of how your first attempt actually felt.
Their result processing is not supposed to wait for these three re-exams
NTA states that results for the 84 subjects for which Answer Key Challenge was issued will proceed as scheduled. JRF allocation and e-certificates for Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission for those subjects will not be delayed because of the three re-conducted papers.
Do not restart the whole syllabus on Monday morning
Reconstruct your June attempt first. Make two lists: Paper 2 mistakes and Paper 1 mistakes. Then label each mistake as a concept gap, revision gap, option-confusion problem or execution mistake.
Your first attempt has already given you something a mock test cannot fully reproduce: a real exam-pressure diagnostic. Use it before choosing what to study next.
English, Commerce and Sociology are different subjects. But every one of these candidates has the same Paper 1.
UGC NET Paper 1 contains 50 compulsory questions carrying 100 marks. If your Paper 2 preparation was reasonably strong but your Paper 1 score was average, the re-exam window gives you a defined area where additional marks may be recoverable.
Do you really need to relearn an entire postgraduate subject—or could 10–20 recoverable marks be sitting inside Paper 1?
Look specifically at Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Mathematical and Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, ICT and Higher Education. If these were treated as “secondary” during your first preparation, the September re-exam is a chance to correct that imbalance.
A practical daily structure can be simple: Paper 2 core revision + 60–90 minutes of Paper 1 + PYQ/error review. If Paper 1 was already strong, maintain it. If it was clearly pulling down your aggregate, increase its share.
If June exposed Paper 1 as the weak link, avoid replacing one scattered strategy with another
Some candidates only need revision and tests. Others will realise that they never built Paper 1 systematically in the first place—their preparation came from disconnected videos, PDFs and last-minute PYQs.
One organised Paper 1 path instead of ten disconnected units

The reason to consider it is not simply that a re-exam has been announced. Consider structured guidance only if your June attempt showed that Paper 1 genuinely cost marks and you need a faster concept → PYQ → test → revision system before September.
Make Paper 1 the part of your score you improve systematically.
Check the SWMG Paper 1 curriculum against the units you actually struggled with in June. If it matches those gaps, use the remaining preparation window to repair them rather than starting everything again.
