A beginner can start with Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences and Environmental Biology. These units introduce basic language used later in ecology, pollution, conservation and current environmental issues.

After this foundation, gradually add Environmental Chemistry, Geosciences, Energy, Pollution, Waste Management, Environmental Assessment and Legislation, Statistics and Contemporary Issues.

04 A routine that is easy to repeat

A simple weekly preparation routine

Concept days

Learn two or three small topics and create short revision notes.

Question day

Solve topic-wise PYQs and a small mixed set from older topics.

Numerical day

Practise formulas and calculations from the topics already studied.

Revision day

Review short notes and reattempt questions recorded in the error page.

This does not mean that every student needs the same number of hours. A two-hour routine followed regularly is usually more useful than an eight-hour plan followed only once.

05 Make calculations less frightening

How should beginners prepare Environmental Science numericals?

Do not begin by memorising a long formula list. First understand what the question is measuring. Then practise the same type of problem with different values.

  1. Write the given values with units.
  2. Identify the required quantity.
  3. Select the correct relationship or formula.
  4. Substitute carefully.
  5. Check whether the final unit and value make sense.

Do not leave UGC NET Paper 1 for the end

Environmental Sciences is the 200-mark subject paper, while Paper 1 contributes another 100 marks. Both papers are part of the same examination and the final result depends on combined performance.

Study one Paper 1 topic alongside your Environmental Science routine. This prevents the common problem of completing Paper 2 but having too little time for teaching aptitude, research aptitude, reasoning, data interpretation, ICT and higher education.

What should you do when preparation feels overwhelming?

Do not create a new timetable or change all resources immediately. Reduce the next action until it feels manageable.

Today Choose one small topic

Complete one explanation and write five useful revision points.

Next Solve ten questions

Use them to identify one weak concept instead of judging the whole preparation.

Then Plan only the next week

A short realistic plan is easier to follow than a perfect four-month calendar.
